It may seem painful to a newbie gardener to snip a perfect growing zinnia stalk, but’s it’s actually good for the plant.

Some flowers, especially my faves zinnia, in all varieties, actually grow more stalks at the cutoff point, and thus, better flowers a few weeks after. Pinch them at the top of every third leaf node.

A stubby stalk becomes prolific.

Forced maintenance, all for the sake of growth, right?
