She joined the zoom networking meeting with her webcam off. “I’m not zoom-ready” was her reason, and I accepted it. I had never heard that term, but it got me thinking.

Is your LinkedIn profile zoom ready?

A few observations are in order:

  • Everyone uses zoom, even if it is not the preferred platform in your business. You at least have to be familiar with it.
  • You cannot invite someone to a future zoom chat without their email address. Your email address is in the Contact Info on LinkedIn, right? I run across so many people who do not have a completed Contact Info section, which is a great insight into them as a professional. All pros want to be easy to get a hold of, right, with no games, no pleading, no searching for the best email address to get to you, right?
  • Your LinkedIn headshot needs to look like your offscreen webcam picture. And your onscreen image.
  • When you are speaking, people are searching for your name in the bottom left corner of your “live” zoom picture. They want to read about you on LinkedIn and often you get connection requests that way. My advice is to hold a second zoom chat with that individual to explore opportunities before you connect with them.
  • While I am at it, your name is in the bottom left corner of your “live” zoom picture, isn’t it? Not your company name, not your spouse’s name, but your full professional name.
  • You can include a QR code to your website, your blog, your LinkedIn profile if you want in the background of your zoom screen. I do. Many have told me they can find me easiest that way. That’s what I want, to be accessible.
  • Then I can opt in to engage, based on cues, innuendo, and feelings about this connection, then we chat, I piece the emotional with the factual and then I decide.

Zoom adds so much value in bringing the world together in real time, easily, and in almost all cases, at high quality audio and video.

LinkedIn knits professionals together to provide background personal professional information and demonstrates the quality the individual offers in their posts, comments, and whom we know in common.

A great pairing, but only when used well are they ideal. Project an ideal LinkedIn profile. Be zoom-ready. Be amazing-er.
