I hear that excuse from time to time, I have too much to do to now have to change my LinkedIn profile.
Too much to do for whom? For you? You can never invest enough in yourself, so why start holding yourself back now?
Too much to do for your clients? What happens when the unexpected happens, like a pandemic, or a major tech failure, or market meltdown? Where do you go to appeal to new clients to backfill the gap? How do you convince prospects that you are the one to now turn to for accumulated experience and industry recognition for your expertise?
Don’t think it will happen? Ask residential real estate agents who were prevented from showing properties in COVID due to health concerns. Ask commercial real estate agents who are still reeling from a dearth of properties that seek lessees while lessors scramble.
So I ask you: have you ever tried to merge onto an interstate highway from a dead stop? It takes a huge expenditure of time, energy, and unmufflered noise emissions to just get into the oncoming traffic’s pace.
Why create a hazard for yourself, your career, your clients, or your prospects? 0-60 is arduous work. Stay on the race course and keep revving your engine, with a continually updated LinkedIn profile. It takes time and concentration for you to recraft it
It takes others time to find you, evaluate you, appreciate you.
Don’t be myopic. Be a visionary.
