You get 2 pages as an entrepreneur on LinkedIn:
Your personal profile page and your company Page (LinkedIn differentiates the two by use of a capital P or not).
So here’s a tiP or two:
- on your personal profile page, use singular first person pronouns: I, my, me, mine
- on your company Page, use plural first person pronouns: we, our, us, ours
Why? Well, my colleague David Shriner-Cahn posted this last week on his blog, written generally for all marketing communication, but I am especially attuned to its LinkedIn applicability.
It’s spot-on, so I am quoting him, because I cannot say this any better:
When you sell services to a company, it’s important to speak as a company.
Even if you are a business of one person, when you use “WE” rather than “I” in your communication about your work, you will position your business as a peer of your client.
“We have a track record of successfully helping companies increase their revenue and market share.”
Using “I” language is more likely to shift the power dynamic in favor of your client. You may open yourself to unnecessary questions about how you produce outcomes.
As a consultant, the last thing you may want is to be questioned about how you use your time.
Clients pay you for results, not how you achieve them.
Nicely said, and so valuable for you, my reader, as a solopreneur or small business.
Think and look big and global, although you may be local (like in your basement.)
