Why do ducks form rows? Is it that they lamebrainedly just follow one another to the destination?

Are there any disrupter ducks? Odd ducks, you might say. Do any ducks take their own path without being followed by others?

He’s crazy as a loon, you must be saying about me. He’s been blogging too long.

But not really, I am just thinking aloud that animals have a herd instinct and they survive or they perish, and few pay attention to how they get to their goal.

Suppose you had an instinct to only follow the one in front of you and never pave your own way. Doing just that, would you have arrived where you are today?

Or be further along if you struck out earlier on your own, my entrepreneurial friends?

I recall 40+ years ago my father came home from a company sales conference and under his arm was a silver washing machine agitator with the words “Agitator of the Year.” He was so proud.

I was mortified that he had so stuck his neck out to win such an award, and instead of following the masses, had gone his own way. And someone awarded him for it! I was flabbergasted. Embarrassed. And obviously never forgot it.

And today, I would be proud to be recognized as such a single voice, rather than one among many with the same mantra. Thinking freely and following my own path.
