National political candidates these days are offering their best cookie recipes in exchange for a financial contribution, or perhaps they can entice you with a yard sign shipped to you, or offer you rich dreams investing in bitcoin, sneakers, bibles, etc., all for sale.
I am not condemning this, just pointing out that we consumers expect something in return for a contribution of our money, time, or a tiny sliver of our diminishing attention span.
Pivot: your LinkedIn profile is that come-on: give me some of your precious time and attention, read as far as you can into why I do what I do (you are expressing that, right?) and I will reward you with the benefit of my past experience rolled into my vision of today’s best practices, and together, we will travel into a combined future that will benefit you, primarily, and yes, me as well.
The acid test is a 2-part question:
- am I getting leads from prospects perusing my LinkedIn profile, and
- if not, upon your own objective review, would you “buy” from you based on what you see on your existing profile?
Did you? No? How could you do that better? I have a few ideas….yes, for your financial commitment.
You get a nanosecond to make a great impression in an attention-deficit reader’s mind.
