I have a few colleagues, who over the years had to take leave from LinkedIn to finish a time-consuming project, like a PhD., or a book, or time off for medical reasons.

They asked me, different in each condition and situation, how to stay visible on LinkedIn without being actively involved.

It’s a dilemma, and while not perfect solutions, I offered these:

  • Preschedule some posts on LinkedIn.
  • Use some “best of…” posts that bear repeating.
  • Drop by every so often and repost their post so your connections see you are somewhat active.
  • Same for commenting back, even if it’s an “atta-boy/girl” type comment.
  • Ugh–even add an emoji. {Yikes! Did I just say that?}
  • Post a photo of whatever is taking your time to show you in action, with a brief comment that you are progressing and what you are learning in macro terms.
  • Post an article someone else wrote that you came across elsewhere that others may benefit from, with a short comment why this is important.

What have I left out?

Has this happened to you, and how did you deal with it?

It’s not advisable to disappear, but rather, turning the velocity down keeps you in mind and in the mix.
