“Why.”
Central to what I teach.
Why do you do what you do? I authored a whole book surrounding this theme for the American Bar Association aimed at all professionals, not just lawyers.
It’s hard to iron down our why. It’s always changing. It’s not easy to put your proverbial finger on it because it is complex. That’s fine; this is as it should be.
The hacker tells what, like you are reporting the factoids about yourself. Now isn’t that boring? No one respects the one who takes the easy way out.
But when you tell your why, you open yourself up to self-regulated vulnerability, honesty, introspection, self-analysis and the narrative you want others to know how you got to today.
Now is the time to tell your why.
Why now?
Well here’re a few reasons:
- you will procrastinate doing it and this becomes a long-time ordeal. Do it now.
- you will change it frequently so why wait until that precise moment? Start somewhere.
- you have to beat the competition, telling the prospect why uniquely you. Keep them enthralled.
- you got the reader’s attention to your profile. Do not lose that energy. Make it yours.
- you are searchable, referable, and attractive on LinkedIn when you are amazing-er. Stand out now.
- you are the product of the skills and influences you have gathered around you. Up to today and beyond.
That’s just a start.
