Last week I wrote a Back to Basics Tuesday blogpost about adding your email address and cellphone number to your Contact Info. Comments came in.

And one reader asked me a question in addition to his comment:

I guess the reason why many people avoid putting their information into their LinkedIn profiles or About section is because they get so many spam emails and phone calls. What are your thoughts to that?

Never missing an opportunity to add my experience and impressions to a question asked of me, I answered:

You ask a good question.
My answer is this: I focus on the 99.9% of people who may want to get a hold of me by email and/or text for honorable purposes and not on the small percentage of abusers.
Some people use a special-purpose email address just for LinkedIn inquiries to segregate contact methods and platforms from their usual email address, and others do not reply to texts and voice mails that are clearly unknown parties. The legit ones will leave a voice mail. All of these make sense.
And while I am speaking about sense, it makes a lot of sense to know how to block abusers on email and texts too! I
often get that off-the-topic question too.
Thanks for your question!

My intent is always to educate and provide observations for my readers’ greater success. He appreciated my reply and responded:

I fully agree. My approach is similar. Despite getting so many spam-ish emails – there’s always a “spam” button on your email platform!

Conversation over a topic many ponder, we are rowing the proverbial boat in the same direction. Will you row with us too?

Next Monday is the Memorial Day holiday here so I will be taking that day off from the blog. I’ll be back Tuesday the 28th.
