Sometimes I read a profile and think “why on earth is THAT how you want us to perceive you?”
Instead, it should be what we aspire to in the reader’s mind. We seek that moment of “a-ha, now I understand why you do what you do, and I do want to contact you.”
Last week I was reviewing the profile of a highly accomplished consultant whose “special sauce” is interpersonal engagement.
But as I reviewed her LinkedIn profile, my thoughts about her were far less-than-engaging. And far from interpersonal. And certainly not engaging.
In fact, she was (dare I say it?) resume-ly boring. {I think I coined a new adverb…Back to the story:}
She was seeking engagement on LinkedIn, correctly identifying her audience there, but lamented she could not find the traction she envisioned. I asked her one question:
Take a 30,000-foot view of your profile and tell me, would you contact you, based on this profile?
Then she saw the light.
What she could not see was the people who stopped by her profile and left abruptly.
I am pleased to say her reconstruction is in progress. Mission accomplished.
