I need to wear a suit for an event. I looked through the “suit museum” (used to be  called a closet, but since I wear a suit sporadically, it only gets accessed once a year or so) and there it was, a perfect match for the tie my son bought me, then my new dress shirt, so I decided, “that’s the suit.”

So I tried on the jacket. Suitable, a little snug. Not as I had hoped, but not as much as I feared.

Then, as I feared, the pants.

Cue ominous music. I could get them closed, but my what a breathless struggle; so much so that I could not imagine an entire food-centric evening so girdled.

Off to the tailor: to employ his craft to better cover my aft. I need another inch or sew. Lest I lose you in bad puns about my being increasingly built like President W.H. Taft (historical rhyming teaching moment) who weighed 243 pounds when he graduated from college and weighed more than 330 pounds as President. They buried him in a piano box BTW.

LinkedIn pivot:

I routinely prune my stories, edit the narrativity, cut out the extra weight to no longer “waist” time and blubber, about my career. I thin out the old publications and verbose language in my past  job descriptions in a previous decade or century. I want the reader to get the skinny on my values and worth. I weigh in with energy and high-octane views. I work out the message to pull my weight without being overbearing. Alas, sometimes I add more than I lose.

I too am growing depth, and yes, breadth, but enough about me, but now about you.

How does your LinkedIn profile suit you well? Does it need alteration to fit your needs?
