Here’s an easy way–but like all hacks, it’s not necessarily fast, but in the long run, though it will take a year, it will be easier!

Backstory:

Like you, I accept connections with best intentions and hope to find gold nuggets, but some of them do not pan out. Not even dust.

Then we have accumulated hundreds, thousands perhaps, of connections we do not know or have a chance of making music with.

Rather than sit in front of the TV over several BORING evenings and go one by one through my connections and trying to reimagine why the heck I agreed to connect with this person, I let LinkedIn deliver them to me.

One by one.

How? Every time they have a work anniversary because LinkedIn will report that to me as they occur.

And on a rolling basis, when I see a name that does not conjure up any memory or idea why I should stay connected to them and them to me (it’s a two way street, you know!), I can click their name in the work anniversary message, look over their profile for clues, and 1) decide to keep them as a connection or 2) sever them.

It takes a year, yes. And I won’t fall asleep doing this brain-numbingly boring task in a few slugs and ruining my evenings.

And that will remind me the next time I add a connection to zoom or call them to see if or how we can help each other. Then I can decide if this is the type of gold mining I should be pursuing with them while I have their full attention, and they have me.

Caveat connector, right?
