10 years ago I broke my left leg. No, I didn’t trip. Or fall.
Some of you may recall this. I certainly do. Well, parts of it…
I was on the receiving end of a rock from under my lawnmower. 200 MPH. Compound fracture. Went into shock. Total blur until ER and OR and post-op.
New owner of a titanium rod and plates and screws to hold me together.
I gave up cutting my lawn. I try to know when it’s time to pull back on some tasks. I just found out sooner and in a harder way than I anticipated.
Once fully healed and stronger than ever, I looked back on that experience and was gratified at the learning experience and health wake-up to be actively participating in every day. I reflected on it in a LinkedIn article.
My family, clients, and friends were great in my healing process. No pressure. Fully rooting for me.
It took time to get past the physical and mental weakness of atrophy, rebuilding, relearning, and newly how to use a walker, then crutches, then a cane. Then how to pace myself to brave the impediments that curbs and slanted pavement and irregular sidewalks posed. And not to overdo it.
Isn’t that a metaphor for entrepreneurial life? You take the stumbles and the pain in stride, you strengthen and overcome, and you face every challenge with optimism that this too shall pass.
Even when it feels it might not. You persevere.
You may over stretch your abilities and find out later that was not the best idea. And you learn further about your capabilities as you mend. And keep testing yourself.
10 years. Wow. Still kicking butt, with both legs, but not both at once.
