Ah the |. Wikipedia calls it a “vertical bar.”
Yes, on LinkedIn it’s a spacer. It works well to separate ideas, key words, concepts in your headline, a place where character space is at a real premium.
How to use it?
First, edit your headline.
Then, find that the key on your keyboard (above your enter key); shift and press that key to get the vertical bar “|” and I suggest you allow a space before and after it to set off the ideas best
Finally, save your work. The vertical spacer separates out functions, job skills, etc. that you want to show, visually and mentally.
Done.
Improved headline.
Certainly easier to read and visualize.
Thanks to friend, colleague, and valued connection Judy Heft for the blog idea and for allowing me to use her headline as an example here.
