Triskaidekaphobia. Fear of 13; silly, huh?

Here’re 2 more from my observations:fear

LinkedInresumeregurgitateaphobia. My fear of reading someone’s LinkedIn profile that is clearly a cut-paste job from an old resume: historic, lacking pronouns and adjectives, and worst of all, backward-looking (just like where I look to escape this horror and hit the key to take me backward to the search page to find someone else to work with).

LinkedInselfexpressionaphobia. Slightly less chronic a condition, but still pandemic: your in-bred fear of stating in your own words, in your own way, why you do what you do and how you do what you do on your LinkedIn profile.  It is manifested by your LinkedIn profile appearing clinical. dull, lifeless, in acronyms and industry jargon, and certainly not representative of someone I would to rush to engage as a possible business partner or colleague.

Luckily there are antidotes:

  • Try to overcome your fears by facing them head on,
  • And dump that resume on LinkedIn!
  • Mostly, don’t be fearful of expressing and branding yourself on your LinkedIn profile, in your own words, and
  • You must do so very well.
