This came up twice this week, so it’s an issue worth spending time on today. Like Now. Search for your name in the search bar at the top left of any LinkedIn screen. See 2 (or more) of you? I once had a client with 7, yes 7.
You opened a LinkedIn profile a while ago and left it. So it petrified. Or perhaps you lost access to the email address and/or password you used to set it up. Or you started a new one, but the old one remains visible when someone searches for your name. Confusion grows in the reader that maybe you are not quite as detail-oriented as you might be since you have 2 profiles. Or they read the wrong one and get a less-than-sterling perception of your capabilities.
What to do?
Close one, the one with the least or oldest material. Once closed, you can concentrate on what I teach here, being amazing-er to your readers, but in one p0lace, right?
Here’s the Linked help Center instructions to close one profile: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1337200
Tidy up, and please make every place you appear the best you can be.
