Wednesday wonder: why are you paying for something you do not use?

See that gold LinkedIn logo next to your name on your profile?

It tells the world you have opted to pay for a/some subscription-based add-on service(s) from LinkedIn.

I always ask clients, “I see you are paying for a subscription from LinkedIn. When was the last time you used it?”

Pregnant pause. Silent moments. Crickets.

Stammering, they reply, “I don’t know.”

Or “a few months ago.” Or “I forgot I subscribed.”

I wonder why they are not paying closer attention to their credit card statement for this monthly fee.

Not wanting to make them feel foolish, I suggest they may want to evaluate if they need it anymore. Nicely. Then I tell them to use that money they just saved for a new headshot, or  hire a videographer, or do something to make their profile look even nicer. By hiring me, in a few months, my coaching fee has added enough value to their profile to have paid for itself.

The gold logo does not.
