Look at your personal profile page.

All the way at the top.

Do you see a graphic behind your headshot and headline box that looks like a medium blue starry night with lines between the stars?

What does that say about you? Nothing.

C’mon, with a little extra effort you can make that background photo a lot more interesting to give an immediate impression that you care about your brand and show best what line of work you are in, leaving an immediate a mental image that is memorable to the reader.

Or you can be boring. Your choice.

From LinkedIn’s Help Center, here’s how you change that graphic to something more interesting than the default:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click View profile.
  3. Click Update background photo at the top of your profile and select an image from your computer to upload.
  4. Click Upload photo.
  5. Click Save.

Be advised: premium subscribers get to choose a graphic from a library. Limited, but a choice

I made my own, showing various aspects of my work. It was not that hard to make this.
