roughroadLinkedIn revealed some new global information based on a survey they undertook. Uh oh.

Ok, I knew it was the case all along and have been rallying against these study results. I see it everyday in teaching my clients and in my group presentations.

It ain’t pretty, but it can be repaired.

For the next 4 days I will give my opinions and observations on how you can overcome these.

You can do better, and I am going to help you.

Get strapped in because we are taking off.

Survey says:

“40% admit it’s difficult to describe what it is they do for a living”

What’s in your headline? Summary? Present day Experience subsection? Do you tell why you get up in the morning each week ready to do the best job you can, with traits and skills you learned from the past, practice each day, and make more valuable for your future? Yes? Great. No? Then your LinkedIn profile reads like a resume on electrons, so you had better get working on self describing you worth, your values, your skill set, your street creds. Now.

Ask yourself what you like to do and why do you enjoy doing it?

Who are you? What do you want others to say about you? Why do you do what you do?

Jot down the ideas as they come, knit them together to create a story that others can appreciate that describes why you chose to make your living (not factoids but deeper, more emotive, expressive thought–you can do it!)

Now that’s a great start. Keep tweaking it. I still tweak mine as I grow and change, and I am still in beta!

You have left the 40% and joined the majority, the 60% who know themselves via their work and can express it.

Tomorrow: my thoughts on the second survey result: “Only 35% feel confident describing their professional achievements”
